About us

Elephant and Ink is built around one central idea: that the stories we live are just as important as the stories we tell.

What we do

In her own words

When I lost my Dad, it was like the hero of my story had been written out. So, like a lot of people, I drank too much, ate too little and lost the things that made me, me.

Because that’s what life looks like sometimes - messy, completely disjointed and in need of some serious editing. And that’s what I love about writing: it mirrors life.

That was the starting point for Elephant and Ink.

I’ve always believed that the stories that shape us aren’t the polished ones. They’re the ones that are fraught with emotion, riddled with plot twists and fought and won by the best, most loved characters.

When it came to my story, writing couldn’t fix the mess but it did give it form. It helped me make sense of what happened without having to erase it. Elephant and Ink was born to help others do the same.

The truth is, my Dad was always the inspiration behind my story. Elephant and Ink is proof that he still is.

Miriam Thomas

Teacher of English

Miriam taught English to 11-18 year olds for the best part of a decade. During this time she learned exactly what works to engage students when learning the craft of writing. Her experience in the classroom armed her with a wide range of teaching methods and assessment tools which she now brings to the Elephant and Ink offering.

Master of Education

Miriam also holds a Masters in Education, giving her the knowledge and insight to promote inclusion, manage a lesson skilfully and differentiate for a range of learner needs.

Advertising Copywriter

Since 2012, Miriam has been an Advertising Copywriter, working with some of the world’s most established agencies and brands. It’s helped her hone her craft further and has reinforced the important role that language plays in shaping both our behaviour and our understanding of the world.

If you’re here, you’ve probably lived something that changed you. And maybe you’re ready to write from that place, not in spite of it. That’s why I created Elephant and Ink. Not to teach you to sound like a writer. But to remind you that you already are one.
Because you’ve lived. And that’s where the story starts.
